At IQ Staffing, we match people with the right opportunity. And pretty often, the best matches come from outside of the Dutch borders. This means that we have helped a lot of people move and settle in the Netherlands. A lot of them end up in the Amsterdam area and understandably have a lot of questions about the city. Today we would love to share our introduction to Amsterdam with you.

Centraal Station

Central Station is one of the public transport hubs in the city. Trains, buses, trams, and metros leave from this station. Aside from that, it is filled with small shops where you can grab a quick bite, a wide variety of gift items, books, or toiletries. It is also the place where you can purchase an anonymous OV-Chipcard. The OV-Chipcard is the preferred public transport payment method in the Netherlands. It is one card that you can top up and use on any type of public transport. If you need to travel that same day, an anonymous card is the way to go, as personalized ones take some time to get to you in the mail.

Jordaan District

The Jordaan is one of the most famous neighborhoods in the city center of Amsterdam. It is known for its picturesque houses, good restaurants, and a wide variety of shops. The area has lots of bridges over the canals and is therefore also very popular amongst tourists to take typical Amsterdam canal pictures.

It is also the place of various markets. Every Monday until 13:00, there is the Noordermarkt flea market. For food, there is the Lindenmarket and the Noordermarkt on Saturday, and on Monday there is also a food market at the Westersestraat.

Business District Amsterdam Zuid

Amsterdam Zuid is the business district of Amsterdam. Here you find the big corporate towers and business centers. The area also has a station and is therefore easily reached by train, tram, bus, and metro.

De Pijp

Another lively area that you should visit in your free time is De Pijp. This area is full of bars and restaurants and is very popular amongst locals on Friday and Saturday night. It is the perfect place to start your night out with dinner and drinks. It is also home to one of the most famous markets in the city: De Albert Cuypmarkt. This is a food and general goods market that happens every day (except for Sundays) from 09:30 until 17:00.

IQ Staffing Office

The coziest office in the city is found at Hessenbergweg 79, which is the IQ Staffing office. It is situated in another business area in Amsterdam, easily accessible by car and public transport.

Amsterdamse Bos

The biggest park in the city is the “Amsterdamse Bos” which translates to the Amsterdam forest. It is three times the size of New York’s central park and it is entirely man-made. The park is a popular sport for outdoor activities, food and drinks, a visit to the petting zoo and water activities in summer! It is only a short tram ride away from the city center and the perfect green getaway if you want to leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind you for a moment.
